Building record 1819/1/2 - Gate Piers and Front Garden Walls to Calveley Hall

Gate piers and front garden walls: late seventeenth century for Lady Calveley. English garden wall bond orange brick walls with rounded stone coping on three sides of a rectangular front garden. Middle of east wall has a pair of gate piers in ashlar buff sandstone. Greek cross in plan with some rustication and a projecting moulded capstone. This carries a stepped cap with large ball finials on restored stands. Gates now missing.

A walled forecourt with splendid Baroque gatepiers.

The Hall and garden areas are in a state of disrepair; the gardens are overgrown and sections of the garden walls are broken. The gate piers, with a Greek cross plan, are capped by large ball finials remain but the gates are missing.
