Full Description
Fulshaw Cross. Reported to have stood at the corner of the road leading from Mobberley to Fulshaw, where it joins the high road. Later moved to a neighbouring garden (1). Shaft of cross reported to have disappeared pre 1903 and the block moved to the margin of the pool called 'Gallimore's Pits' and served as a socket to receive a fingerpost. The steps are said to have been built into the wall of a house. About 1883 the base of the cross was purchased by the owner of a neighbouring house, placed on a mound in his garden and restored (2). OS report that the modern cross is engraved 'Fulshagh Crosse'. There is no indication that the socket stone is of medieval date. Original site of cross not determined (3). The cross was damaged in a traffic accident and head copied from the existing stonework in 1986.
