Monument record 1442/0/1 - Small earthwork Circle at Stormy Point.

Small earthen circle at Stormy Point, discovered in 1904. Suggested as a dwelling of Romano-British miners(1). OS describe this circle (g) as a raised platform of earth c.17m diameter and 0.7m high. It is sited on a high point and appears to be a tree ring (2).
According to (4), this is similar in dimensions to the 'Seven Firs' monument. May well be prehistoric but may also have been used for the purpose of planting pines in the late 18th century. Located amongst a group of Scots pine upon a small grassy plateau on the east side of the main track between the Pillar Mine area and Stormy Point. Hummocky ground in centre is probably due to disturbance caused by old tree boles below ground level. There is also one possible shaft depression with in the interior.
The circle appears to lie on the early east-west ridge route, connecting it to several other circular earthworks at Alderley (4 and 5).
