Full Description
Moat at Mottram Old Hall. Three sides of the moat were recorded in 1877 (1). In 1975 only one side was left, which was boggy and formed part of a garden. The moat is a maximum of 10m wide at the SW and 5m wide at the S (2). In the early 1980's, the moat was dredged to open the three sides and refill them with water. Stone revetment walls have been constructed to retain the platform and the result may be artificial.
