Summary

The remains of a moat at Marthall may be the site of a medieval manor house of Old Warford. It is now virtually filled in with only the north-eastern and north-western arms surviving as an earthwork.

Moat at Marthall. The moat has an average depth of 1.5m, but is now virtually filled in. It is now used as a garden for the eighteenth century farmhouse to the south. The site was probably originally of manorial status. Depicted on the Tithe Award and the Estate Map of 1785. See also (2) and (3).

The moat which is under grass, has an average depth of 1.5m. Published survey (25" 1934) has been revised. A surveyed transect across the northern arm of the moat suggests that the moat platform is c.0.4m higher that the surrounding ground. The south-eastern arm is largely infilled.
