Full Description
Langley Hall, Langley Lane. Small country house, now converted to three dwellings. Dated on datestone 'MCA 1696'. Coursed rubble with ashlar dressings and stone-slate roof. Entrance front - projecting plinth with moulded ashlar top. Ashlar quoins to corners and ashlar bands between floors. Seven bays symmetrically disposed. Central doorway with painted ashlar surround. Moulded doorcase with arched panels to either side. Console above supporting semi-circular hood with double shell moulding beneath. Datesone in cartouche to centre with primitively carved face below. Righthand reveal: four bay windows and some casement windows. The entrance front is a well proportioned example of provincial Renaissance architecture. Interior: lugged stone fire surround with heavy mantel. Full architectural description (1). A T-shaped building in the ownership of Will Broadhurst is shown on an early C17 map in the Public Record Office (2).
