Summary

Grade II* listed building. It was originally a medieval hall, then a farmhouse and now a house. Built in the 15th century and rewalled in stone in the 17th century with repairs and brick additions in the late 17th century. There was major restoration and extension of the solar in 1939. The building is now built of sandstone rubble and brick with a stone-slate roof. The interior plan of hall, solar and and passageways survives well and the medieval hall has been reopened to the roof.

Full Description

Willot Hall,Wilmslow Rd.Formerly hall,then farmhouse,now house.Late C15 with rewalling in stone C17 & repairs/adds in brick late C17.Major rest- oration & extn of solar 1939.Sandstone rubble & brick.Stone-slate roof.Orig rect in plan,4-bay front to pre-1939 portion.Right 3 bays divided by butt- resses have C20 windows.To left solar is brick on rubble plinth.Brick bands 1st & 2nd flr.Rear range in brick with tall stone mullioned windows,brick bands & lateral chimneys.Int:plan of hall,solar,screens passage & service rooms survive with some alts,hall reopened to roof.Spere truss & parts of other trusses survive.These have arch braced cambered tie beams with crown post.Screen timber framed with 3 rebated doorways & wattle & daub infill.A gallery created above with Jacobean panelling.Original hall may have been timber framed for an arch braced length of wall plate survives.Full arch desc(1).Core is unmoated manor house (2).Photo pre-restoration (3).

"Willet Hall was antiently vested in a family of the local name( which was seated here in the reign of Edward the Third…) "William Wylot of Foxwyst is recorded in documents which date to this time and more details of these can be found in this source. No description of the Hall in this source.
