Full Description
The original Peover Hall was a half timbered building, to the SW of the present building, which was erected in 1585. Date of original hall unknown, but presumably after the 12th century, when Roger Mainwaring of Warmincham gave his holdings at Peover to his younger son, William. William established himself at Peover, where his family remained until the early years of this century. Nothing remains of the old buildings & it is not possible to say how long they continued to stand after the new hall was built in 1585. A gatehouse destroyed by fire in 1683 presumably belonged to the original rather than the present site (1). The hall must have lain within the moat (RN: 1213/1/2)
