Summary

An early Bronze Age flat axe in good condition. Found in a stream bed near Tipping, Hunters Pool. Flat axes were cast in an open mould. They are one of the first types of metal axe made in Britain.

Full Description

An early Bronze Age flat axe in good condition. Found in a stream bed near Tipping, Hunters Pool. Axe with finder (1). Undecorated bronze flat axe in good condition with some encrustation and incipient bronze disease. 99mm x 65mm x 12mm. Weight 260g. Found after heavy rains in the bed of a stream in an area where rubbish had been tipped. The axe therefore may have been recently deposited near the findspot (3).
