Full Description
Disley Vicarage, No.l Red Lane.Poss began in C16 as priest's hse at Chantry Chapel. W front has 3 beams in upper rms larger & heavier than required, poss brought from old Lyme Hall.Hse became residence of priests of the Chantry,but by 1530 their own Chantry House had been blt to E (1).Present blg has later C17 core, alt & added to 1861.Washed & pebble-dashed rubble with stone dressings.Stone- slate roof.Later C17 plan-3 unit lobby entry hse,adapted 1861 to double-pile with 2 parallel ridges.In 1 bay is projecting,coped,gabled porch with lancet with entrance to left in chamfered stone surround.Int:C15 cambered tiebeams carved both sides,visible in 1st flr ceiling.Lower halves heavily moulded & 3 blank shields above,central ones flanked by trefoil moulding.2 moulded beams survive on grnd flr,in hall & kitchen.Disagrees with Ref.1 that core fabric belongs to C16 Chantry Hse,since carved beams shortened & support a later roof truss,but must have been reused from locally important blg (2).
