Full Description
Mill House Farmhouse and Cottage,London Road. Formerly dower house, now a farmhouse and a house. Dated 1603 for Sir Urian Legh with mid C18 and early C20 alterations. Timber framed with brick and plastered infill. Stone- slate roof,one brick and one stone chimney. E-shaped plan. Two-storey north front. Projecting left end has 6 x 4 timber frames and herringbone work in the gable. Central section has projecting two-storey gabled porch with ovolo-moulded entrance with date in decorative panel above. Behind porch is a six-board studded door in rebated ovolo-moulded case. Mullioned and transomed windows. Projecting right end has 6 x 4 timber frames with angle bracing to ovolo-moulded tiebeam and herringbone work in gable. To sides and rear,walls are partly replaced in rubble stone and brick. Interior: Most timber framed partitions intact. In hall,ceiling beams have added C18 moulding. Panelled doors. Roof trusses not visible but windbracing to purlins (1).
