Summary

Grade II listed house. It was formerly the Pole Farmhouse, then a bakery and alehouse, now a house. Built in the early 17th century with 20th century alterations and additions. Originally U-shaped in plan or of two parallel ranges that were later joined. Rendered stone rubble with a stone-slate roof, stone ridge and one plastered chimney.

Full Description

Penny Loaves, London Road. Formerly the Pole Farmhouse, then a bakery and alehouse, now a house. Early C17 with C20 alterations and additions. Rendered stone rubble. Stone-slate roof, stone ridge and one plastered chimney. Originally U-shaped in plan or of two parallel ranges later joined. Two-storey, three-bay, twin gabled front. Gables have C20 casements on both storeys and show heavy roof timbers. Small central gabled porch has semi-circular headed entrance. Interior: Timber framed partition walls. Parlour has deeply chamfered ceiling beam, bead moulded wooden lintel to window and a fire beam. Simpler ceiling beams in other rooms (1).
