Full Description
The Tithe Award Map and Schedule have the placename Toot Hill for a field centred at given NGR (1). Dodgson gives meaning as "look-out" hill and the field contains a prominent hilltop (2). RAF vertical A/Ps do not show any certain archaeological earthworks (3). Name reoccurs in Macclesfield Forest where a major earthwork is to be found, see RN: 1570. The names may refer to lodges established in 1361 by the Black Prince to safeguard his game (4).
