Summary

Grade II listed house. It was built in the mid 17th century with 19th and 20th century additions. It is timber framed with rendered brick infill and a stone slate roof. The 20th century porch incorporates 17th century material. A ranges of late 17th century farm buildings have been converted to form an extension to the house. Wood was in plentiful supply as a building material in Britain until the 17th century. It was therefore the most practical material for house building. Timber framed buildings consist of a wooden framework (usually oak) that was infilled to created solid walls. Infill material used included wattle and daub, lath and plaster, brick and weather board. Brick nogging, (brick infill) was often used in the 17th and 18th centuries to replace earlier wattle and daub or lath and plaster infill as it was longer lasting.

The Old Rectory, Church Lane (formerly listed as Rectory Farmhouse). Mid 17th century with 19th and 20th century additions. Timber framed with rendered brick infill, stone slate roof. Two cells. West front - stone and nibble plinth, 11 bays of large framing with arch braces. Evidence of a 17th century wing at the south end but added to in the 20th century to create a large gabled wing. 20th century porch incorporates 17th century material. 20th century connecting wing to rear of main range adjoining this to late 17th century farm buildings now converted to form an extension to the house.
