Full Description
The manor house of Mobberley stood on the site of the Augustinian Priory (RN:1248/2). The old house and domain with the advowson of the church were bought by Andrew Carrington, from the Talbots, lords of the manor and sold again to Thomas Mallory, dean of Chester. He bought the advowson of the church in 1619 and the house in 1625. Sir Peter Leicester says of the manor house that it 'stood close by Mobberley church, where now, 1672, the house of Mr Mallory of Mobberley standeth. But the ancient fabrick which was more spacious and very ruinous was not long since taken down'. The house was rebuilt between 1795 and 1832, considerably altered in 1919 and became the property of the National Trust in 1951. Demolished in 1961 (1).
