Summary

Grade II listed 17th Century Houses. One building, Spring Cottage, facing the road, is the original house of 1691. It is built of painted brick with sandstone quoins (corner stones) at the sides. The interior has exposed timber framing and ceiling beams throughout. Foden Bank and Greystones are painted brick additions of around 1810.

Full Description

Spring Cottage, Foden Bank and Greystones, Byron's Lane. One building. Spring Cottage, facing the road, is the original house of c.1691. Painted brick with sandstone quoins at sides. Casement windows, some with moulded stone keyblocks. Twin gables to front. Interior has exposed timber framing and ceiling beams throughout. Datestone (not in situ) with date 1691 and initials H.S. Foden Bank - addition of c.1810. Painted brick. Sash windows with segmental heads and stone sills. Recessed doorway with Corinthanesque pilasters, semi-circular head, fanlight with metal fret and later glazed canopy overall; moulded wood eaves, the lefthand wing dentilled. Greystones - also an addition of c.1810. Painted brick. Two large tripartite windows with slightly cambered brick heads. Much altered lower projecting wing on righthand side.
