Small, rough, quadrangular grey-yellow flint block. Identified as an early mining tool. It is wedge shaped with a flat butt and edge (rough wedge form) and pecked shallow groove for hafting. Dated as mesolithic.

Full Description

Flint block found by Graves or Roeder c.1900 (1). Possibly in Manchester Museum or the Grosvenor (2). Small, rough, quadrangular grey-yellow stone block. Early mining tool. Flat butt and edge (rough wedge form) and pecked shallow groove for hafting. From Alderley mines (SJ 8603 7762). Now in Pitt Rivers Collection (3). Longley dates this to the mesolithic (4). Stated in (5), as a possible flint core found near Old Alderley Quarry.
