Full Description
Timber Framed Barn 25m north-east of Clock House Farmhouse, Alderley Road. Barn and Shippon. l7th century. Timber framed with wattle & daub and later brick infill on massive stone plinth. Corrugated asbestos roof. Long downhill plan. North front has 9 x 2 and 3 timber small frames with angle bracing of the wall plate. Two doors and central gabled half dormer. Interior: central threshing floor with shippon above, shippon and half-loft below. Tie beam and collar trusses. The tie beams are arched braced and the central one supported by a vertical post. According to (2), the barn is oak-framed with intact wattle and daub panels dating to c. 1550. The brick infill is made of hand made bricks and there are carpenters' marks on the wooden beams. Another medieval barn close by was demolished in 1910 but timber from that structure was used to rebuild the existing one.there is an ancient Yew tree at the south end (2).
