Summary

After the Norman conquest, the manor and church of Prestbury were granted to the Abbey of St Werburgh by Earl Hugh Kevelioc. The Abbey held the manor until the dissolution when it passed to the Dean and Chapter of Chester. A manor is area of administration introduced as a feudal estate after the Norman Conquest and used for over 500 years after. The holder of the manor was entitled to extract taxes and goods from the inhabitants of the manor.
