Full Description
Various roads and tracks on Alderley Edge, referred to as 'Saddle Roads'. Thought to be very old and associated with early mining activities. Roeder and Graves suggest Romano-British date. Shown on map, lettered A - D (1). OS report that these tracks appear to be comparatively modern. 'B' is the forerunner of the adjoining modern raod, while 'C' and 'D' are disused farm tracks. 'A' is still partly in use. They are situated on sandstone where erosion is rapid (2).
According to (3), Saddle road is a road running along the Edge ridge at its lowest point between Glaze Hill and Saddlebole. Possible Medieval or earlier.
