Summary

Grade II listed Gate Pier in front of Whirley Hall, a 17th century Mansion house. The Gate Pier gates from the late 17th century and is made of buff sandstone. It shows the arms of the Fitton family. In Victorian times there was another which had the arms of the Swettenham family.

Full Description

Gate Pier in front of Whirley Hall, Whirley Lane. Gate Pier, late 17th century. Ashlar buff sandstone. Moulded plinth supports a square body with two recessed panels on each face. The upper panel to the front has the arms of the Fitton family. Projecting, moulded capstone has a mushroom finial. In Victorian times there were still a pair, the missing one with the arms of the Swettenham family (1).
