Full Description

Former Tithe Barn at the Manor House, Holmes Chapel Road, now used as storage building. Dating from the late sixteenth century, it has a timber frame with brick infill to the panels and a stone slate roof. Western front: 15 x 3 cells of small framing with angle braces and some surviving tension bracing. Two twentieth century doorways, the original doorway in the sixth bay from the left is now bricked up. The eastern front has double barn doors. The gable ends have 6 x 3 cells of small framing with angle and tension braces in the corners. The northern end has a twentieth century gable truss and a nineteenth century extension.

The eastern of two L-shaped barns surrounding a probable yard. The southern part of the tithe barn, as depicted on this map, is probably the building now known as Wisteria Cottage.

This map depicts the barn. There appear to be additions to the northern and north-eastern end of the barn.

The majority of the westernmost barn has been demolished, though the most northerly part is still extant.

Describes the tithe barn as a '…period timber-framed barn with mellow Cheshire brick infill, impressive oak trusses and a wonderful graduated stone roof above…'. Part of the barn has been converted to accommodation and forms part of Wisteria Cottage.

The northernmost extension has been demolished and a glazed link added between the barn and Wisteria Cottage.
