Full Description
Thornton Mill: mentioned in documents of 1265-91 (1). NGRs given in (1) at SJ439 757 and (2) at SJ439 755 are a long way east of the River Gowy, even allowing for a change in course. That given by Bott in (3) seems more likely. Site appears on Cheshire maps from Burdett onwards. A watermill on the Gowy which may have served Ince in the medieval period (3). Site is now covered by the Oil Refinery.
