Find Spot record 35 - Neolithic polished stone axe

Polished stone axe of close grained greenish stone. Found at Burton Point (SJ 303736). Taken to the Grosvenor Museum for identification in September 1974 (1). Polished stone axe with faceted sides. Light grey-green fine-grained rock. 103mm long, 69mm wide and 29mm thick. NGR given as SJ 302737 (2). Found in a ploughed field to the north of Burton Point and adjacent to British Steel Road. CAB grid ref. of SJ303736 seems to refer to the Point itself and is therefore probably inaccurate (3). (Find formerly recorded also as CSMR 48 & 2316).
