Full Description
Barn farm incorporates within its buildings the old tithe barn of Burton and Puddington townships and remained a possession of the parish until 1979. In 1871 Captain Congreve spent about 200 pounds on virtually rebuilding Barn Farm which he held on lease from St John's Hospital. In 1880 the fields of Barn Farm, which were scattered throughout the township, were consolidated around the farm though a land exchange with St John's Hospital. An illustration of the farm has the following caption '…the former tithe-barn, built partly of stone and partly of brick…' (1).
A farmhouse with an attached range of outbuildings. The buildings date from seventeenth century, but have some later alterations. The farmhouse is built of stone which has been stuccoed at the front. The window arches are of brown brick, as are the ridge stacks. The outbuildings are also of brown brick and coursed rubble sandstone. All have slate roofs (2).
