Full Description

Complex railway site from SJ 582847 to SJ 585853 involving lines from the Grand Junction Railway (Later LNWR) and the Birkenhead Railway (Later joint GWR/ LNWR) Disused line of the GJR with a tunnel to the north east and early single arch brick and stone bridge to SW. SE is present Warrington-Chester line, SE of that is the disused line of the Birkenhead, Lancs and the Cheshire Junction Railway, opened in 1850. The changes were made in 1893 to provide the necessary clearance over the Manchester Ship Canal (1).
