Full Description
A Saxon copper-alloy strap end and the head of a silver disc headed pin. The strap end has 2 pierced rivet holes in the split end. One side is decorated, the other flat and plain. The decorated panel is filled with off-white inlay which may be enamel. Central motif is a collared long necked animal with its head turned back across the body to face the feet. Terminal in form of an animals head. Length 3.7cm; width 1.2cm; thickness 0.11cm. The disc of the pin has an animal motif on one side while the reverse is flat and plain. Decorated side has traces of possible niello infill. Animals head looks backwards. Many of the features of these items have close parallels elsewhere (1).
