Old Locks built 1772-73 ran between later Waterloo Bridge and Docks on the Bridgewater Canal. Entrance lock from the Mersey survives but other ten in staircase pairs are filled in. Total full 70ft (21.6m). New locks built in parallel 1825-7 but also filled in, little visible

Subject of land reclamation scheme in 1987/8 by Halton Borough Council and Cheshire County Council. Trial trenching revealed stone lock basins intact and filled with wrecked canal boats

Runcorn Bridgewater old Locks. The line of the original flight of ten locks in staircase pairs rising 21.3m is now a public footpath. Built 1772-3. The remains of the stone locks can still be seen as can some of the pounds to the north.
