Please read our guidance about the use of Cheshire Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
A Stray find of early medieval pilgrim's flask, more likely to have been brought back in post medieval times. It commemorates St Menas, who was an Egyptian Soldier in the Roman Army who refused to abandon his Christian faith. The cult of St. Menas is centred around a shrine in Egypt which had a healing spring which pilgrims would visit and take away the water in pottery flasks. These flasks were commonly reproduced in Britain during medieval times.
