Full Description
Twenty inscribed Roman "sowes" of lead were found on the sea shore (1). Discovery made whilst pursuing a vein of marl , near Runcorn, upper end of Mersey Estuary (2). Some of the pigs were inscribed "IMP. DOMIT. AUG. GER. DE. CEANG" dating to AD 84-96 and others "IMP. VESP VII. T. IMP. V. COSS" dating to AD 76 (3).
