Summary

A number of Roman finds were found at the site of the Brewers' Arms, 61 - 63 Foregate St. in 1897, including a cinerary urn, Samian ware pottery, a coin of Antonius Pius and several bronze objects. Also found was a rectangular seal box inlaid with red, orange and white enamel in a reticular pattern.

Full Description

In 1897, on the site of the Brewers' Arms (61 - 63 Foregate Street), a cinerary urn, bronze objects and an assemblage of pottery that included Samian ware were found (1), together with a coin of Antoninus Pius (2) and a seal box. This was of rectangular form and almost complete, with its lid and a base. The lid was inlaid with red, orange and white enamel in a reticular pattern. The base had four perforations in it (3).
