Summary

Prehistoric wooden figurine reported to have been found between 1760 and 1780 while cutting peat. It is described as 'a wooden figure, rude and grotesque, but complete with eyes, nose and mouth". It was apparently sent to the British Museum but there is no record of this.

Found by Daniel Stringer, while cutting peat, probably between 1760 and 1780. The figure was sent to the British Museum, but there is no record of its arrival

It is described as 'a wooden figure, rude and grotesque, but complete with eyes, nose and mouth. He concluded it to be an idol, and sent it to the British Museum with an account of its discovery, but never learnt whether it arrived safe there'.
