Full Description

Swanley Hall. Traces of a filled-in moat suggest the course of the south arm. Swanley Hall purchased in early C16 by Randle Mainwaring and house described c.1621 as 'an ancient gentleman's seat' (1). Present farmhouse retains early C16 origins with extensive later alterations. Two-storeys, four-bays red brick exterior, except for multi- strutted timbered gable to north wing. Interior has early C16 style moulded main beams and deep stop-bevelled joists (1).
The Moat is marked on the 25inch third edition Ordnance Survey maps, and is still visable on the millenium survey aerial photography (5&6) and is not the same site as the current hall.
