Monument record 2578/1/0 - Buxton Works, Crewe
Please read our guidance about the use of Cheshire Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
A clothing factory that was opened in 1894, taken over and worked by Heap's in 1912. It has 2 storeys and is very much like a fustian cutting workshop.
Fustian is a mixed fibre cloth of linen, cotton and sometimes silk. It is woven in such a way the the surface can be cut to produce a nap. Cutting was originally done by hand and the cutter needed to walk up and down the room all day. The rooms used for this process needed a long floorspace without obstructions and substantial flooring.
