Full Description

A three storey brick and slated building with the wheel and machinery all gone, except that part of the flat shroud of the wheel sticks up from the ground by the upstream gable. The river flowed across the back of the mill, but all trace of weir and sluice was removed by the Water Board and the channel to the front of the mill has been filled in (1). Bott (2) associates Brooks Mill with Breech's Mill (1487, with reference to 1130), but 1831 is the first definite mention of Brook's Mill (3), although it is marked, unnamed, on Burdett's 1777 map (4).
