A pair of stone heads found at Alpraham. Female head, 56 cm high, lentoid eyes with heavy lids, long triangular nose, wide mouth with teeth. Forehead, cheeks and chin incised with wavy lines. Back carved in relief with figure of a splayed frog. Hollowed crown. Similar male figure, 48.5 cm high, with back carved with figure of a trussed bull. Thought to be Roman to early Medieval/Dark Age in date. Sold at Sotheby's 1986. Belongs to a large group of stone heads from Britain which on stylistic grounds are termed 'Celtic', but which show continuity into the Post Medieval period.

A sales catalogue produced by Christie's in October 2003 describes the stone heads as:-
Two Celtic sandstone 'Altars'
Early 1st millenium A.D
Both with heavily incised facial lines and features, with long grimacing mouths and exposed teeth, the larger carved with a splayed frog on the reverse.
