Bulkeley Mill(s). The references include Mulnehurst, Mol de Bulkylegh, Bulkeley Milnes and "The Mill Hole" (1690). Field names (see 2) suggest that the site was on the south side of the Wrexham to Nantwich road (A534), not at the present mill (TA fields 139 Mill Meadow, and 149 and 152 Mill Holes).
<2> See map for surveyor, c.1837-51, Cheshire Tithe Maps and Awards, EDT 340/2 1839 (Maps and Plans). SCH3266.
Fields 149 and 152 Mill Hole, 150 Back of Pool, 156 Old Pool, and 157 Bank, may suggest the location of the mill at approximately SJ 5334 5442.
<3> Dodgson J McN, 1970-2, 1981, The Place-Names of Cheshire, Vol.IV p.18 (Book). SCH3228.
There are documentary references to a mill or mills at Bulkeley from 1308. The Mill Hole, first mentioned in 1690, was a water meadow in a field near the mill.
