To the north-west of Old Hoolgrave is a sinuous earthwork, probably an old watercourse, to the south of the current course of the River Weaver. This earthworks corresponds with the township boundary, and the area it defines, is the only part of Church Minshull in this area, to lie on this side of the river. To the west of this feature is a possible shallow earthwork at the base of the valley side. This leads from the river and joins the sinuous channel. Although somewhat obsured by a later drain, theses features appear to rejoin the river adjacent to the bridge. These features may be associated with the water supply to and from the mill.
