Summary

Grade II listed farmhouse. 17th century with extensive 20th century alterations it is timber framed with rendered infill and thatched roof. Wood was in plentiful supply as a building material in Britain until the 17th century. It was therefore the most practical material for house building. Timber framed buildings consist of a wooden framework (usually oak) that was infilled to created solid walls. Infill material used included wattle and daub, lath and plaster, brick and weather board. Brick nogging, (decorative brick infill) was often used in the 17th and 18th centuries replace earlier wattle and daub or lath and plaster infill as it was longer lasting.

Full Description

Farmhouse. C17 with extensive C20 alterations. Timber framed with rendered infill and thatched roof. Two-storeys. L-shaped plan. Entrance front of 13 x 3 cells of uneven small framing. C20 door to right of centre with C19 casements to either side. Ridge stack to left of centre. Sides and rear now in brick. Interior: Ground floor rooms have massive chamfered ceiling beams. Inglenook fireplace with chamfered bressumer and ashlar sides and rear. Four plank doors survive. Queen post trusses (1).
