Full Description
Multi-use farm building, late C17. Red brick in English Garden Wall Bond, with some timber framing and slate roof. Two-storey, six-bays with three-bay addition. Brick nogged, light timber framing at first floor level, east side, heavier timber at rear with passing braces. Half heck and ledged and battened doors. Interior has tie beam and collar trusses, raking braces and four posts between the beams. Oak ridgetree and purlins. Two purlins are ovolo-moulded and carved with ecclesiastical motifs. One inscribed Thomas Twiss, Wardens, 1689. The farmhouse at Brownhills is c.1830 (1).
