Summary

The site of Peckforton Mill. This watermill is depicted on numerous nineteenth century maps and is believed to have dated back to the fourteenth century. Not inconsiderable remains of the mill survive including the mill dam, the rear wall of the mill and two mill stones.

Peckforton Mill: A watermill site. The tithe award schedule and map depict the mill and mill pond. See also (2) to (7).

'Mulnemedewe (Mill Meadow), dating from 1363, may be the earliest documentary reference to the mill.

An account of the author’s site visit to the site of a watermill at Peckforton and subsequent recording and research. The author describes the substantial remains associated with the mill ponds dam, a large earthwork in excess of ten metres long and three meters wide, and the mill building. The latter includes; the back wall of of the mill building (flush to the dam and surviving to a height of four metres) inscribed with the date 1698, the wheel pit, and two composite millstone grit millstones.
