Full Description
North-East Angle of Fortress. During levelling operations for a sports field in 1935, much soil was taken from the north-east corner of the Deanery field laying bare a very short section of a substantial wall, which represents the back wall of the tower (1). Indications are that the Roman tower underlies the medieval tower, which itself acts as the substructure for the King Charles or Phoenix Tower (2).
