<3> Burdett, P. P., 1777, A Survey of the County Palatine of Chester (Maps and Plans). SCH113.
Burdett’s map depicts a settlement adjacent to the road at this location. It is labelled Hurleston.
<4> Bryant, A., 1831, Map of the County Palatine of Chester (Maps and Plans). SCH2114.
Bryant’s 1831 map depicts the settlement of Hurleston adjacent to the Chester Road and a possible open area where lanes from the south-west and west join the road. Within the settlement, this map depicts and labels Hall Farm and The Green Lion.
<5> See map for surveyor, c.1837-51, Cheshire Tithe Maps and Awards, EDT 215/2 c.1843 (Maps and Plans). SCH3266.
This map depicts a settlement comprising an area of scattered buildings in approximately eleven plots along two lanes adjoining Chester Road and a possible small green or common. Most of the plots are described as house, building and garden and some to appear to be in multiple occupation. One plot is named as the Red Lion public house. The majority of the plots are owned by Julia Tomkinson.
<6> Ordnance Survey, 1871-1882, Ordnance Survey County Series (Epoch 1) 25 inch to 1 mile - Cheshire, SJ6254, 1875-1877 (Maps and Plans). SCH2462.
Most of the buildings and plots are no longer extant. Two farms are depicted, Village Farm and Hurleston Farm, but it isn’t clear if these are new buildings or survivals from the buildings depicted on the earlier tithe map (see 5). Buildings adjacent to Chester Road, and depicted on the earlier map, are labelled as a smithy.
<7> Ordnance Survey, 1896-1898, Ordnance Survey First Revision County Series (Epoch 2) 25 inch to 1 mile - Cheshire, SJ6254, 1898 (Maps and Plans). SCH3848.
Village Farm has been demolished. Hurleston Farm has been expanded and is now named Park Farm.
<8> Cheshire Historic Environment Record, 1990-1992, MPP Scoring Form, MPP Class 9 (Unpublished Document). SCH2222.
Unlocated at the time of the assessment. Hurleston was presumed to be a DMV.
