Building record 326/1 - Egerton Hall

Summary

The site of a medieval hall and chapel surrounded by a moat. The moat has been largely filled in, but the south-western side survives and is partially filled with water. No above ground remains of the hall building survive, but there are the ruins of the chapel. Dating from the fourteenth century, the chapel is a grade II Listed Building. Below ground archaeological remains associated with the hall and the moat are expected to survive within this area. In addition, the archaeological deposits within the arms of the moat are most probably waterlogged, which would lead to the preservation of organic artefacts (wood, leather, textiles) and palaeoenvironmental remains.
