Monument record 4338 - Bunbury Commons (West)

During Summer 1983, large and prominent soilmark, resembling three sides of silted-up moat, observed from air. North side obliterated by buildings. Considers whether it represents marlpit, clay pit or fishpond for Bunbury College. Dismisses these and shows it to have been a feeder reservoir for the Chester Canal (now Shropshire Union Canal) constructed 1775-9. May be that recorded by Hadfield at Bunbury Heath (1).
