Summary

Aldersey Grammar School was endowed by Thomas Aldersey in 1594 and was demolished in 1882. The School master's house, formerley a Chantry, survives to the west.

Aldersey Grammar School was endowed by Thomas Aldersey in 1594 and was administered by the Haberdashers' Company, London. The last school building was demolished circa 1882 and this is assumed to occupy the site of the original school building. This area was subjected to geophysical survey in 1982. A drawing of the school building c.1810 survives (see 2).

The school building is depicted on this map. It is labelled Grammar School (Endowed).

This map depicts the school building and the adjacent master's house (CHER 290/2/2). Described as owned by the Master of Bunbury Free Grammar School, occupied by the Revd John Martin, and described as house, garden, fold, and school house.
