Full Description
Farmhouse, early C17 with alterations and additions. Partly washed brick, partly timber framed. Two storeys and attic, three bays. Rear wing forms L-shaped plan. Large projecting stack at north gable with four-stepped horse mounting block alongside. Interior retains much of interest. Former small framed external walls visible with blocked mullioned windows. Stopped ovolo-moulded and bevelled beams. Wide oak staircase with spiral balusters and panelled newels. Rear wing has flat ceiling joists and a repositioned moulded inglenook bressumer which may be late medieval in date (1). The birthplace of General Wade, builder of the military roads of Scotland (2).
