Summary
Archaeological investigations at 46-50 Foregate Street in 1961 identified evidence of a metalled road surface of probable Roman date. The surface was encountered approximately 6m south of the present street and comprised two cobbled layers on an east-west alignment.

Archaeological investigations at 46-50 Foregate Street in 1961 identified evidence of a metalled road surface of probable Roman date. The surface was encountered approximately 6m south of the present street and comprised two cobbled layers on an east-west alignment. (1)
A secondary alley or lane was also recorded running north south from the main road. (1)
