A survey of the estates of the Bishop of Lichfield in 1298 records a water mill in the township (see 5). By 1621 the lord’s mill was said to be in decay. The location of the mill is unknown, although the meadows by the river to the south of the village are named ‘Mill Meadow’ in 1846 in the tithe award (see 2). A water mill is known to have been constructed in 1241 at Hough Mill, 0.5km south-east of Wybunbury (CHER 183/6).
