An independent (Congregational) chapel was erected on Hope Street in 1836, with a Sunday School and burial ground being established by 1860 and a new school being built in 1893 (1).

Hope Chapel, Hope Street. Date 1836. Pedimented façade to north-west. Red brick, 2 tall semi-circular headed windows, central doorway in stuccoed surround with raised entablature, cornice. Plain semi-circular fanlight and 4-panelled divided door, tablet within gable, inscribed 1836. Side to street has 3 windows and doorway with plain elliptical tympanum

Built for a congregation founded in 1807. Monuments include;

[2] Rev. William Rhodes, 21 Years Minister, 1870, and Margaret his Wife, 1865, Table Tomb;
Also numerous headstones reset against boundary walls
